Montmartre celebrates its
unusual status as the only wine-growing area of Paris and remembers its rural
past with a colourful parade at harvest time.
Over 2000 vines, planted in 1929, thrive in the enclosure between rue
Saint-Vincent and rue des Saules. Since 1937, the area has celebrated its
wine-growing capabilities with a celebration of their grape. A traditional
parade of local wine-buffs leaves the place Jules-Joffrin who follow the blue
and yellow banner of the République de Montmartre, often accompanied by
wine-growers from elsewhere in France and Europe. In the evening there is a
variety show, a banquet, a ball as well as plenty of wine-tasting of course!
